This week, students have continued to learn about los animales in the selva amazónica. They are learning that the animals in the rainforest live either in the trees (los árboles), on the ground (el suelo), or in the water (el agua). They can also communicate where an animal lives using the words vive en.
For extra practice at home, see if your child can tell you a little bit about the rainforest animals. They are able to describe the animals by size and color and tell you where they live, all in Spanish!

This week, we've been finishing up our family unit. As a final project, students are choosing one family member and introducing him or her using se llama, describing him or her using es, and saying what he or she likes or dislikes using le gusta.
Our next mini-unit is going to be about la selva amazónica - the Amazon Rainforest. One class was able to begin the unit this week, and the rest of the classes will be starting next week. Our main focus will be on the animales that live in la selva. We'll be describing their sizes using the words grande, mediano, and pequeño, and also talking about what color they are. For extra practice at home, see if your child can tell you some of the names of the animals. Since we'll be talking a lot about colors, you could also see if your child can tell you the color of things in your home in Spanish. colors: rojo verde anaranjado azul amarillo morado negro rosado blanco (white) café From now until mid-April, students will have a student teacher in Spanish class, and I'd like to introduce myself! My name is Haley Waldo, and I'm so excited for the opportunity to be here at Stevenson Elementary and spend time with your kids teaching them Spanish. I'm a graduate of The Ohio State University with a B.A. in Spanish, and I'm currently working toward an M.Ed. In World Language Education at Ohio State. I absolutely love the Spanish program here and am so impressed by how quickly and how much the students are learning. I feel very lucky to be able to learn here with Señora Deprez and your amazing kids!
Since we came back from winter break, we have been finishing up our Belonging unit. We have reviewed family members, how to introduce someone using the expression se llama, how to describe someone using the word es, and how to say what someone likes and dislikes using the expressions le gusta and no le gusta. We've had fun making up pretend families with the students' favorite characters and introducing them to each other, playing a "guess who" game where students identified characters based on their descriptions, and finally, writing about their own families. For extra practice at home, see if your child can use the following phrases to introduce, describe, and talk about the likes and dislikes of the members of your family: se llama es / no es le gusta / no le gusta I look forward to getting to learn and grow with your students this year! |
