From now until mid-April, students will have a student teacher in Spanish class, and I'd like to introduce myself! My name is Haley Waldo, and I'm so excited for the opportunity to be here at Stevenson Elementary and spend time with your kids teaching them Spanish. I'm a graduate of The Ohio State University with a B.A. in Spanish, and I'm currently working toward an M.Ed. In World Language Education at Ohio State. I absolutely love the Spanish program here and am so impressed by how quickly and how much the students are learning. I feel very lucky to be able to learn here with Señora Deprez and your amazing kids!
Since we came back from winter break, we have been finishing up our Belonging unit. We have reviewed family members, how to introduce someone using the expression se llama, how to describe someone using the word es, and how to say what someone likes and dislikes using the expressions le gusta and no le gusta. We've had fun making up pretend families with the students' favorite characters and introducing them to each other, playing a "guess who" game where students identified characters based on their descriptions, and finally, writing about their own families. For extra practice at home, see if your child can use the following phrases to introduce, describe, and talk about the likes and dislikes of the members of your family: se llama es / no es le gusta / no le gusta I look forward to getting to learn and grow with your students this year!
