Grandview Heights Global Languages Philosophy
Global Languages are integral to the quality and richness of life, and to the human experience. They are, therefore, an essential component of every child’s education. A cohesive Global Languages Program is interactive, meaningful and develops a broadened perspective of the modern world. This discipline is worthy of study as it promotes cognitive development and enhances critical thinking skills, creativity, flexibility of mind, and communication skills. We teach language skills and structures within a contextualized framework in order to meaningfully communicate in authentic experiences.
A Global Languages education should provide opportunities to increase cultural awareness in understanding the connections between products, practices and perspectives. These experiences promote growth of self-confidence, self-discipline, cooperative learning, social interaction, and cultural awareness and foster linguistic development in all students. Specifically, our department is committed to actualizing the following beliefs and practices for all students:

Specifically, our department is committed to actualizing the following beliefs and practices for all students:
- Communicating in languages other than English: Learners will develop structures and strategies necessary to communicate in authentic situations. Learners know how, when, and why to say what to whom.
- Developing and understanding of Cultures: Learners use the language to investigate, explain, and reflect on the relationship among the products, practices, and perspectives of the cultures studied.
- Connecting with other disciplines and acquiring diverse perspectives: Learners build and expand their knowledge of other disciplines while using the language to develop critical thinking and to solve problems creatively.
